2. Community

Méla City

Méla City is a grassroots initiative to plan and co-create affirming and joyful public spaces that honour multiple intersectional cultures in urban space. Working relationally with community groups, civic organizations and municipalities, we combine first-person interactions with research and specialized knowledge of fields within the built environment.

PLOT & Newton Medicine Wheel

I am a member of a stewardship group that manages the day-to-day operations of the PLOT & Newton Medicine Wheel. I coordinate communications with the City of Surrey, support fundraising and organize programming in the space. I lead food security initiatives, such as creating and managing a free food pantry in collaboration with Climate Recentered.

In 2020, I co-created the PLOT Care Baskets (an initiative aiming to provide weekly boxes filled with fresh produce) to support those who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 such as low-income older adults and persons with disabilities. This initiative was an immediate response to COVID, but it was also an opportunity to build resilience over time by strengthening the relationships between local growers and local consumers, which reduces vulnerabilities to shocks like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cha, coffee and citymaking

I host community pop-up events featuring tea and coffee across the Lower Mainland! These gatherings are all about bringing together folks who care about shaping better cities. Whether you're working in the field or just interested in making a difference, come join us for some warm drinks and great conversations. Let's connect, share ideas, and build a caring community together!
